Our Story

Cooking Eggs

"The most meaningful moments always happened in the kitchen. Whether it was prepping for Shabbat dinner or cooking for a holiday gathering, people opened up when they were chopping vegetables or stirring pots together."

Our Giving Kitchen Montgomery County was born during a moment of uncertainty that deeply affected our neighbors—the extended government shutdown at end of 2025. As the shutdown stretched on, families who had never needed help before were suddenly struggling to put food on the table. Conversations with local food organizations made one thing clear: the need was urgent, widespread, and growing.

We knew we didn’t want to create just another food pantry or rely on canned goods and generic meals. Our vision was different.

We wanted to cook the kind of food you would feed your own family—fresh, wholesome, nutritious meals made from scratch, prepared with care and dignity. Not soup-kitchen style meals, but real food that nourishes both body and spirit.

Our Giving Kitchen Montgomery County prepares kosher meals, giving us the unique ability to serve the Jewish community while also supporting the broader Montgomery County community. Because our food meets kosher standards, we are able to reach families who are often excluded from traditional food assistance programs—without limiting who we serve.

At the center of our model is a simple but powerful idea: bring people together in a kitchen to cook real meals for real families. Volunteers don’t just donate and walk away—they show up, work side by side, and turn compassion into action. In the process, we strengthen community while meeting an immediate, essential need.

The impact is tangible. Families receive healthy meals they can trust and enjoy. Parents experience relief during difficult moments. And volunteers discover that meaningful giving can be hands-on, human, and deeply fulfilling.

At its core, Our Giving Kitchen Montgomery County is about responding when we see a need, honoring dignity through food, and proving that when a community comes together with purpose, it can make a real difference—one meal at a time.
